This was an impromptu performance by world renown Griot and Kora player, Foday Musa Suso, performing at a small festival on the Hudson River in the river town of Haverstraw, NY. As fate would have it, I had just picked Suso up at the Tarrytown train station after not seeing each other since the 1980’s. As we crossed the River into Nyack I asked him if he wanted to stop by a small local festival to see a musician called Blind Boy Paxton. As it turned out when we got there, the scheduled musician was late, being stuck in traffic. Suso happened to have his Kora with him, so I asked if he wanted to play for the audience, and he graciously accepted. The MC for the event was very familiar with Suso and was delighted to have him perform.
