Huey Lewis and the News finally struck it big in 1983 with "Sports" and got four top ten hits, "Heart and Soul" at #8, and then the trio of "I Want A New Drug", "The Heart Of Rock & Roll" and "If This Is It" all peaking at #6. Ray Parker Jr started off with Raydio "Jack & Jill" in 1978 but did not find that #1 hit until he left Raydio behind and started his solo career in 1982. As a session guitarist, he worked with the likes of Barry White, Boz Scaggs, The Temptations, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Rufus, Labelle, Freda Payne, The Spinners, The Honey Cone, Gene Page and Stevie Wonder. He was asked to write the title track of a supernatural comedy called "Ghostbusters" and was at a standstill because he had to use the title of the movie in the song with simple lyrics and had to be "happy and funny". He finally hit upon the line "Who You Gonna Call" and the rest of the song fell into place. The producers were ecstatic and Ivan Reitman, who directed the movie, completed a video that included Carly Simon, Danny DeVito, Melissa Gilbert, John Candy, Chevy Chase and Peter Falk. The song spent three weeks at #1 in 1984. Soon, people began to notice that "Ghostbusters" sounded a lot like "I Want A New Drug" as the two songs seemed to compliment each other a little too neatly. Among those who noticed was Huey Lewis who instructed his lawyers to file copyright infringement charges against "Ghostbusters". Parker maintains that it was not a conscious effort to copy the song, but settled out of court and a gag order prevented anyone from disclosing the details. In 2001, Lewis gave his opinion about the "Ghostbusters" to a VH1 program, and was sued by Parker over the non disclosure. It later came out that the producers of the movie "Ghostbusters" had used "I Want A New Drug" as temporary music during many scenes and had unsuccessfully attempted to secure the band to write the title song. So, listen for yourself.....
