This thing is excellent. It comes with two voice lines. It allows for limited internet use and also has some data connectivity for mobile devices and also computers. It's also great for transportation, logistics and if you needed to have some sort of backup communication in a building such as a hospital, that's another good use for this. And it's not just limited to ground. It also does work for maritime. Some specific uses for this device would be off grid communication, and or if the grid were to go down this makes a great backup communication device. Let's dive into the device and how to use it. First off, it's important to note that this is kind of like a WiFi hotspot. Once it is on, it creates its own WiFi, which you will use with your devices. Secondly, a very nice feature is that this device can also use a SIM card and it's an unlocked device, so any SIM should work. Additionally, the device works through satellite. This gives you a steady connection when you are traveling in and out of areas with connectivity. The device itself is very simple. On the top you'll see two ports for antennas. One is a satellite antenna and the second is a cell antenna. You will also see an LED on the top of the following colors green is the initial power up. Red is the unit boot up mode. Blue blinking, is the OS booting. Blue steady, the device is ready. Red blinking is the Iridium firmware update. Blue blinking is the SkyLink needing a firmware upgrade. It's important to install the satellite antenna. You can tell which side is the satellite side because the circle on the top is slightly larger the indentation for the antenna its self. ... It's really important that when you do install the device, wherever that is, if you don't have an external antenna that you face this antenna directly up to the sky. This is the one that communicates with the satellites. So it's really important that it's facing up. It powers on when you plug it in and powers off when you unplug it. The included power cord and adapter allow for it to be plugged into a nine volt cigarette lighter or with an adapter into a wall adapter. Once the device is powered up and the Blue steady light is on, you can now connect your mobile device or computer to the WiFi. It'll show up as SkyLink. If you're using a mobile device, you can use your camera to scan the QR code on the back and to automatically log into the WiFi. If you're using a computer, you will need to input the WiFi password printed on the sticker on the back of the device. It is important that you turn off all background processes on your devices. On a computer, we suggest using Trip mode, which is not supported by the Satellite Phone Store. If you are on an iPhone, go into Settings general Background app Refresh go to WiFi only and shut off all the apps except for the ones that you wish to use. On an Android, go to Settings. Click on Connections data Usage click on Data Saver. Turn on now, then go to Allowed to use Data while Data Saver is on and select the apps you would like to use when connected. Once WiFi is connected on a PC, go to your preferred web browser and type in the following 192.168.111.1 one make sure that trip mode is allowing your browser to access the Internet. Click on Login in the top right corner. Username and password are "Admin". Once you get in here, you can see your data usage. Turn off Cell or satellite data and change a variety of settings. As long as the device is showing connectivity, you should be able to use the Internet on your computer at this point. On a mobile device. Once you are logged into the WiFi and have turned on the apps, you want to use data in the background. App refresh apps like WhatsApp teams, Venmo, iMessage and others work, but only with text and small photos. The SkyLink comes with two voice lines.
