After 10 years and 7000 hours work, boatbuilder and sailor Ian Smith, Principal of the Sydney Wooden Boat School has launched his 24' Ranger class gaff sloop VOLUNTEER. A crowd of friends and well-wishers listened to some speeches, watched an indigenous smoking ceremony and cheered VOLUNTEER as she was lowered into Sydney Harbour to the sound of Scots bagpipes. This is Episode 29 of Ian's Carvel Planking series in which he documents the traditional build of VOLUNTEER and imparts his extensive knowledge and experience of wooden boatbuilding and boatbuilding education, all on @SmithysBoatshed Channel.
