Ape, Beck and Brinkmann's "Wounded Knee" concerns itself with the December 29, 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre in which approximately 300 Lakota were murdered by the US Calvary. This historical atrocity is juxtaposed against the covert, bureaucratic genocide which succeeds it; one characterized by alcoholism, economic underdevelopment, and child mortality.
