Giant Sand contributed "Change is now" (from the Byrds' "Notorious Byrd Brothers" set) to "Time Between: A Tribute To The Byrds" - see below. To the best of my knowledge this track appears nowhere else in Giant Sand's recorded oeuvre to date, other than in the compilation set "Selections 1990 - 2000". The conclusion I draw from that is that the song was specifically recorded for "Time Between" as indeed were most, possibly all, of the others on the set. "Time Between" was released in 1989 in both vinyl and CD format (with the latter containing bonus tracks up to a total of 19). Contributors were generally little known with a few exceptions. The standard of the album was high. AllMusic commented "A superior line-up of contributors makes "Time Between: A Tribute to the Byrds" one of the better homages of its kind". Arguably the best known artist included was Richard Thompson both of whose tracks are amongst the highlights. That said, there are no tracks present which could be termed failures. I reviewed the album on Amazon UK and concluded "Overall this album is a very pleasing way of revisiting the Byrds' back catalogue".
