Morocco's Silver City : Was It Worth The Drive ? (Tiznit Guide)

Is Tiznit really the silver capital of Morocco? We took our 7-meter Fleurette Puffin off the beaten path to explore the incredible walled city of Tiznit. From ancient ramparts to the legendary silver souks, this stop was a highlight of our Moroccan road trip! #tiznit #morocco #vanlifevoyages #lifeisbutadream #silvercity In this video, we navigate the departmental roads (avoiding those tolls!) to find the best spots in this ochre-walled oasis. We’re sharing: Van Life Tiznit: Where we parked our Citroën Jumper and how the 7m rig handled the city. The Vibe: Why this feels so much more authentic than the big tourist hubs. If you love European (and North African!) camping car adventures, hit that SUBSCRIBE button and join the Itchy Wheels community. We’re growing every day and love sharing the road with you! Video Transcript: Exploring Tiznit & Camping Car Upgrades 0:00 Buying Fish for the Plancha 1:21 Radio & Touchscreen Upgrade 2:59 Fresh Orange Juice at Source Bleue 4:29 The Old Prison & Fortress Museum 6:15 Exploring "Bike City" & Old Tiznit 7:44 Walking "Babouche Boulevard" 11:08 Daily Vitamin C with Friends Tonight we're going to buy a Dorade for €5. It’s a great size, so we're going to cook that ourselves on the plancha. The hygiene leaves a bit to be desired with the flies, but we'll cook it really well to kill any bacteria. Behind me, there's a guy making made-to-measure sizes; he’s working right there on his hands and knees. Catherine's doing a bit of work too, keeping the prices low. We're still in Tiznit and I’m having some work done on the camping car. One of the jobs is changing the old radio for a new high-tech touch screen. We’re going from this old Android that never worked properly to a very high-tech piece of kit. I’m glad I didn't attempt to change it myself—it’s a very complicated job. The technician here is an expert young guy who went to the automotive college in Agadir. He’s learned his trade and has a shop down here. If you ever get to Tiznit and want a radio, I highly recommend Yousef at Una Accessories Auto. He’s a very pleasant guy, he owns the shop, and he supplies radios to the other technicians around here. Continuing our tour of Tiznit, we’re now at the Source Bleue (The Blue Spring). In the mornings, we come here with a couple who have taken us under their wing to have a glass of freshly pressed orange juice. Next, we’re heading into what was the old prison and fortress. There is nothing left of the old fortress, but a 2009 restoration turned it into a museum and a beautiful open-air theatre. You can come along, sit, and enjoy the show. Now we’re riding into the village for our daily half-liter of orange juice. We purchased a Tajine for €3 and now we’re going under the archway into the Old Town of Tiznit. It’s quiet this morning, but in the afternoon, it’s packed with people and bikes—it’s like the 'Cambridge' of Morocco! They call it 'Bike City,' though there are no hand signals or helmets here. As we navigate the streets, you see everything for sale: fruit, vegetables, fish, and meat. I tell you, we’ve not eaten any meat since we’ve been here—seeing it hanging up with the flies doesn't give you the desire to consume it. We’re turning up a little road I call 'Babouche Boulevard' because of the handmade shoes. You can see the craftsmen inside making their Babouches. This is a very typical Moroccan village street. We’re getting some roasted peanuts at the end of the street and heading to the Town Square where Catherine is buying some clothes at unbeatable prices. The town really feels alive. We’re finishing up at the Source Bleue to meet our friends for that vitamin C hit. It’s a nice little square and a great place to enjoy a drink.
