Growing Up Korean American in Los Angeles

Cinemills TV Team sits down with Sergio Kwon, an Entrepreneur and Street survivor. Sergio was kind enough to share his story of growing up with a single Mother on the cold and wicked streets of Koreatown, Los Angeles. Koreatown is the most densely populated district in Los Angeles County, with 120,000 residents in 2.7 square miles. Despite a name that evokes a traditional ethnic enclave, the community is complex and has a dramatic economic disparity where the poorest people are observed through the Mercedez Benz limo tint of the elite Business Owner class and Asian Mob Bosses. Known for having the best restaurants and night life in the city KTOWN is also home to some of LA’s most vicious gangs. Sergio although never joined a gang was able to navigate through the streets as a lone wolf. But as we all know the streets are undefeated and Sergio was overcome with drug addiction and homelessness. He started smoking broken windows, and burning drug dealers in town. After endless sick ones, he hit rock bottom when he couldn’t hold his own bladder and pee’d his pants - Sergio knew it was time for a change. Putting in the hard work, Sergio rehabbed and is now Sober, happily Married and the Founder of the highly successful Sergio Kwon show on YouTube. Sergio has an authenticity and a telegenic presence as he breaks down gang culture and current events relating to hip hop culture. Cinemills TV’s team are big fans of Sergio and more importantly his humility and courage to share his story with the intent of helping others that are at risk and may see themselves in him.
