Leaving the beautiful shores of Curaçao, I embarked on a new sailing adventure towards Saint Martin. The journey started with unexpectedly strong winds, making for a challenging but memorable sailing experience. Weather forecasts three days of manageable winds around 17 knots. But the Caribbean had other plans… As soon as I cleared the coast, the wind jumped to 25 knots on the nose. By the time I was passing the north of Bonaire, I was fighting 30–35 knots of solid east winds, straight on the bow. Waves were rolling over the deck nonstop, and my course kept pushing me toward Puerto Rico instead of St. Martin. Then things got worse. The constant pounding loosened my anchor just enough for it to swing — and it smashed my navigation light clean off. The first hit from a 25kg anchor was enough to destroy the mount completely. With no improvement in sight and the boat taking a beating, I made the call: turn around. I sailed into Bonaire at 2 AM, grabbed a mooring, slept four hours, and continued back to Curaçao. After 2 days and ~90 miles, I’m back, checked in again, and already repairing the damage. Sometimes the smart choice is turning around. #solosailing #caribbeansailing #cruisinglife #boatlife #curacao Instagram: @sailinganima Patreon: Support the project and get early access ❤️ Link: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=47144847 Website: https://sailinganima.com Leaving the beautiful shores of Curaçao, I embarked on a new sailing adventure towards Saint Martin.
