Video Summary: 00:00 Introduction The Cain Connecticut was reviewed using the Bespoke Unit Cigar Formula, a quantifiable review matrix. Rather than a Boveda acrylic humidor, we used a Boveda bag with 69% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be evaluated. 00:59 Cigar Overview The latest addition to the Cain Cigars range, the Connecticut CT was quietly released in 2018. Unlike the other cigars, it's only available in 5 x 50 or 6 x 60. Meanwhile, the previous instalments were large 6 x 60 gordo vitolas. 02:44 Look & Feel A smooth and perfectly straight cigar, the Connecticut CT has a rich oily sheen and a slender form. There are a few soft spots under the pale espresso crema hue. Furthermore, the cigar doesn't have a very firm spring. Its aromas consist of butterscotch, cinnamon, and hay. 03:23 Prelight The prelight promises an excellent draw. Furthermore, the aromas it delivers notes of salted caramel, cinnamon and benzoin before being lit. 04:01 Tasting Notes The first third delivers a rich tableau of flavours, which consist of butterscotch, sautéed lemon, and an intriguing acetone fruitiness. The second third is distinctively boozy with a brandy butter creaminess. It is accompanied by Birchwood and chargrilled lemon thyme. The final third discards the wood in favour of molasses, hickory, and white pepper on the retrohale. As a straight ligero cigar, the Cain Connecticut was far from overwhelming. It wasn't exactly subtle or complex, however. The body is somewhere around the medium mark and stays consist all the way down. The mouthfeel was velvety and smooth with a creaminess on the palate. Palate stimulation focused on the centre of the tongue but the astringency was relatively balanced. Its lifecycle was reasonable but showed no true moments of evolution with notable transitions. The eventual finish is somewhat brief but the residual scent in the room is quite pleasant. 07:07 Burn The cigar's combustion shows exceptional construction. The draw is consistent and the cigars delivered an excellent burn line that was mostly straight with no touch-ups needed. The combustion's temperature was cool and the ash backbone was strong. 07:39 Overall Experience A common complaint of Cain cigars is the single foot on the band, which takes away any chance of enjoying ornamentation while enjoying the smoke. Furthermore, the band isn't as attractive as previous Cain cigars and feels like an afterthought. The box is also lacking in detail, especially when compared to the previous cigars. Where boxes were physically branded and featured attractive decals, the Cain only has a laser-printed name on the sides. However, the cigar is very cheap and presents excellent value. The RRP for a single is just $8. Yet, the cigars are frequently on sale through Holt's where a box of 20 can be picked up for just $70! At $3.50 each, it's excellent value for money. 11:35 Pairings Salted caramel, candied peanuts, and pretzels are all great snacks for pairing with a Cain Connecticut. As for beverages, consider a limoncello! You can even make it yourself with our own guide: https://bespokeunit.com/spirits/limon... Otherwise, a Speyside single malt would be a good liquor and a cappuccino will help extend the cigar's creaminess. Already tried the Cain Connecticut cigar or have any questions?
