(5 Jul 2018) ++UPDATED SCRIPT. VIDEO ORIGINALLY FILED 5 JULY++ UK WINNIE THE POOH MAP SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS RESTRICTIONS: AP CLIENTS ONLY LENGTH: 4:57 ASSOCIATED PRESS London, UK - 5 July 2018 1. Tilt down of Philip Errington, Senior Specialist, Department of Manuscripts and Printed Books, Sotheby's, placing 'Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood' map by E. H. Shepard on easel 2. Various of 'Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood' map 3. Various of Errington looking at map 4. Close of 'Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood' map 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Errington, Senior Specialist, Department of Manuscripts and Printed Books, Sotheby's: "This piece is incredibly exciting because it's your entry into the Hundred Acre Wood. This is the first thing you see when you open the book, this map is on the end papers. Before you've read a word of the book, this is the visual guide, this is your opening to the world of Winnie-the-Pooh." 6. Various of 'Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood' map 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Errington, Senior Specialist, Department of Manuscripts and Printed Books, Sotheby's: "The story is that Shepard sold the original drawings which he created for Winnie-the-Pooh and the house at Pooh Corner in the 1920s. At that point, they went into private hands and they've surfaced at various times since then. We last sold the map in 1970, but since then it has been in a private collection. So, it's very exciting to see it again, another time up at Sotheby's, but very exciting to see it again after almost 50 years." 8. Various of 'Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood' map 9. Close pull focus of map, shows 'Piglets House' 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Errington, Senior Specialist, Department of Manuscripts and Printed Books, Sotheby's: "To look at these pieces, to see the originals in front of you, there's so much more in them than can ever be reproduced in the book. That's because the book was shrunk down slightly, these don't appear this size. So, one little detail which I noticed only a few days ago was we see Piglet standing outside Piglet's House, Piglet is obviously wearing a striped top, but he's not when you look at it in the book, it just becomes this blob because the ink runs together, and it shrunk down. So, there's all sorts of details that you can see in the original that you don't see in the book." 11. Various of Winnie-the-Pooh illustrations by E. H. Shepard also included in Sotheby's lot ASSOCIATED PRESS London, UK - 3 October 2016 12. Low shot of Winnie-the-Pooh cuddly toy in front of bookcase 13. Various of Winnie-the-Pooh books 14. Mid of sign, reading (English): "Celebrating 90 years of The Best Bear in All the World" next to stack of new book "The Best Bear in All the World" 15. Close of sign with Winnie the Pooh illustration 16. Tilt up of book ASSOCIATED PRESS London, UK - 5 July 2018 17. SOUNDBITE (English) Philip Errington, Senior Specialist, Department of Manuscripts and Printed Books, Sotheby's: "What you've got in the Pooh books is a brilliant combination of a writer absolutely at the top of his game. And what I think works particularly well in the books is the dialogue. Milne was known at the time as a dramatist, he made his money through writing plays, and that really comes across as these characters speak. So, there's the wonderful witty prose of A.A. Milne, coupled to these fabulous, fabulous pictures by E.H. Shepard. That combination is very special." 18. Various of 'Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood' map 19.
