Spigen Tough Armor T [MagFit] Compatible with Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max - Black Review -With the iPhone 17 version, Spigen took the high road -other companies went the lazy route -the PC back of the case extends around the camera lump -think this has any benefit in terms of protection? -you still have the tiny borderline useless kickstand -iPhone sits on a bed of yellow foam that's tucked into a TPU frame -wrapped with a PC frame -case seems to get slicker every year -Spigen doesn't use the tacky soft rubber coating anymore -even the TPU is really smooth -the only saving grace is the edge is about the thickness of the iPhone so the case doesn't feel like a drop risk -its' the same story as the Air, this is the only tough case that doesn't feel like a tough case on this device because of the edge -weighing 58g, feels lighter than it looks -average case is 45g -going to make your iPhone bigger by about 65% -for corner drops -initial impact to 9.7G's, that's better by 7% -the rate of rotation after the intial drop is higher by about 20% -most likely due to the impact foam -oddly enough, this increase in spin didn't have much of an negative impact because -the rate at which the case settles was better by 45% -and the total force is better by about 8% -BUT it takes a bit longer for the entire case to settle down -in short, the Spigen Tough Armor does an amazing job protecting your iPhone -during corner drops because... -face first drops might be an issue -the case didn't fail -but the intial impact was about 5% higher -the selling rate was 34% worse -but the total force was about 11 better because the case just stopped moving really quickly -still doesn't negate the bigger initial impact but it's not a complete blow out -for the camera lump -it is covered -because Spigen went high with the PC back -the intial impact was 10% better -took a lot longer to settle because of the PC back -and the total force was 23% lower than average -pretty good -it would be tough to do but it would be neat to see how much better the Tough ARmor would be if Spigen added some of the foam around the camera lump -the corners of this case are 3.2mm thick -a hair thinner than the Beats Rugged I reviewed two videos ago -but unlike the Beats Rugged -the back is just as thick at 3.2mm -the corners have Spigen's impact foam in the corners which is good to see -there were a couple of years where the foam wasn't in the corners which didn't make sense -the inside of the case looks assymetical in terms of foam layout because of the kickstand -don't stare at it too long or else your brain starts to hurt -for rigidity, it took 16N to bend 8mm -that's 46% below average -the case does have a PC back but it's spotty along the edges -so there is a lot of give -is this going to be an issue for protection? -my initial impression was yes because the first 10 cases I tested, the ones with rigid backs did better -for magsafe, took 9.2N to pull and 11.7 to push -these are very average values -and again, higher than Apple's own cases -in general, I dislike cases with integrated buttons because it's a cope-out in terms of case design -BUT Spigen does it well with the Tough Armor -because the integrated buttons are the width of the case edge so they're big and easy to find and press -this case also has the largest Action button on a case -and it has a different finish so it's super easy to find -there's an actual camera control button, unlike the next spigen case I'm going to review -for screen access, the edges are quite low -don't get in the way of swiping
