Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqualine) is moving closer to full operation with a major milestone as the trial train arrives at Cuffe Parade, marking the final station of Mumbai’s first underground metro. This is a crucial step in completing Phase 2 of the Aqualine, with full operations expected by July 2025. Currently, 12.69 km of the 33.5 km metro is operational from Aarey JVLR to Bandra Kurla Complex. Phase 2 trials are ongoing, divided into two segments: Phase 2A, covering 9.77 km from Dharavi to Acharya Atrey Chowk, has already commenced system trials, while Phase 2B, covering 10.99 km from Acharya Atrey Chowk to Cuffe Parade, is in the final stages of system fitments and architectural finishes. MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide has confirmed the successful initiation of trials and reiterated the commitment to completing the entire corridor by mid-2025. Ridership on the currently operational stretch has been lower than expected, with an average of less than 20,000 daily commuters, but with Phase 2 nearing completion, ridership is projected to increase to 400,000 passengers per day.
