Arguello, Melendez Share Thoughts on Superintendent Update

After School Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace gave her "Superintendent Update" , School Board Members Jon Arguello and Julius Melendez had some questions and comments. Member Arguello stated that he felt it important that the rise of bullying, fighting, and so on, that it may be time to consider that the materials in the school district that parents are complaining about, and that the parents are seeing the things in these books being played out in school. He then spoke about OASIS volunteers and said it's still true that parents with a felony conviction still can't go on field trips with their kids, and finds it ironic that the School Board still has a felon that comes on campuses and takes pictures with kids. Member Melendez said that regarding reporting incidents, one thing he's concerned about is somebody's ability to report something anonymously, because of fear of retaliation, that he doesn't want people to be afraid to report. He also stated he thought it important that this process be communicated to the new Safety Advisory Committee, and that the decision matrix be shown, so that way they know what it is that happened, because sometimes you have parents that don't see the discipline of the other child, and sometimes you get conspiracy theories, where the parent believes only their child was disciplined. #OsceolaPolitics
