Is This Africa Or South America!? Suriname's Maroons (

Suriname is a very interesting country. Hundreds of years ago, escaped slaves hid in the Amazon rainforest, forming new tribes out of people that came from various parts of Africa. Today, these villages still speak African languages and maintain some of the traditions from the continent. These are the Maroon villages, and there's nothing like them anywhere else. You could say it's "the most African place outside of Africa". Feeling a bit nostalgic for Africa after my travels in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Nigeria, I was happy to visit the place. #sabbatical #suriname #africa
