In the New Normal that we are living in, the uncertainty of things have gotten to the best of us. While in the past, so many of us have reflexively found solace in a book, it doesn't seem to be working this time around. So, while we were looking for a way out of this, we read a few graphic novels for a change and realised they were just the solution we were looking for. For the uninitiated, graphics novels weave together creative illustrations with minimalistic yet punchy text to narrate stories revolving around either popular larger then life characters like detective, action heroes or even regular guys, like you and me. They have been around in the literary world right from the 1800's and definitely have their own loyal legion of fans, yet for many of us, they still remain as unchartered reading territory. If asked to name a few graphics novels, most of us would be restricted to listing series such as Marvel, Tintin and so on. Well, that's why we are hoping to go beyond discussing graphic novels that are already pretty well known and introduce seasoned and novice comic readers to relatively lesser known yet equally intriguing books of this genre from across the world. For this, Alok Sharma , a graphic novel fanatic and the co-founder of Indusverse, a company dedicated to the conceptualisation and publication of Indian graphic novels will take us through his list of top 5 graphic novels for mature adult readers. Prepare to be surprised as you get acquainted with diverse stories written by authors of different ethnicities, who have made it a point to create literary backdrops that highlight the cultural, social and political fabric of their respective countries. Hope this serves as the perfect reading fix or a simple distraction, which is what we all desperately need at present!
