From then on it became an important base on the way to Hohentwiel Fortress. During the Thirty Years' War (1618 - 1648) the fortress was used alternately as a base for the various groups of powers. In 1643 the Battle of Tuttlingen takes place, in which the imperial troops crush the French weimarsian army. In 1645, all fortifications in and around Tuttlingen are destroyed by order of Konrad Wiederhold, Commander vom Hohentwiel. Between 1696 and 1803 the ruins are used as a quarry. In 1883 and 1893, the north-western corner tower was rebuilt as a crenellated tower and the north-eastern corner tower as a dome tower, both of which were historically incorrect.
