It's a question I get asked a lot, and it's a really hard one because every Camino route offers something special. In this video, I'll share my honest thoughts after having walked four different routes: the Camino Francés (three times), Via de la Plata, Camino Finisterre, and Camino Muxía. The truth is, each Camino route has its own unique charm. The Camino Francés, for example, is incredibly social and vibrant—especially during peak season. If you love meeting lots of people, making friends, and enjoying a lively atmosphere, you'll absolutely love it. It was definitely my favourite the first time around because of its amazing vibe. But, after experiencing it multiple times, I've realized that now I'm leaning more towards quieter, more solitary routes. Nowadays, the solitude, peace, and reflective walking of less-traveled Caminos appeal more to me. I love routes where you can walk alone for miles, really soaking up the tranquility. I'm drawn to the vast landscapes and the meditative crunch of gravel underfoot—truly walking meditation. What's next for me? Well, I'm looking at routes like the Camino Mozárabe from the southeast, or perhaps the Camino de la Lana from the East Coast, which offer that perfect mix of solitude and adventure. Pat and I have planned a hybrid Camino next: we'll walk the Camino de Madrid for its remoteness, giving her a taste of a quieter Camino, and we'll finish with a stretch of the Sanabrés route. We'll also revisit Camino Muxía to Finisterre because it's incredibly scenic, with stunning coastal paths, great places to stay, and delicious seafood. There are a couple of routes I might skip, such as the Camino Portugués and the Camino del Norte, mainly because they involve a lot of road walking, cobblestones, and are often busy, especially during holidays. My feet just can't handle too much pavement, and I'm not really keen on crowded trails these days. If you're new to walking Caminos or considering your first Camino adventure, check out the links in the description below. I've listed some of my most helpful videos covering essential tips like blister prevention and packing. Let me know in the comments if you've walked the Portuguese or Norte—I'd love your insights! Thanks for the great question and see you in the next video!
