The ‘Express Keys’ are another great feature in most Wacom devices. In this video I’m going to show you how to map the Express Keys and I’ll show you how I use them with my Cintiq Pro 27”. The process of setting them up is rather simple, very much like we setup radial menus or custom buttons in previous videos of this series. However, the real trick to setup Express Keys that will actually help you speed up your workflow, is to assign the shortcuts by context… what I mean but this, is that if you just assign the modifier ‘Shift’ to one of your Express keys, when you switch between applications the ‘Shift’ might not do the same on all the applications you are working on. Instead, you can map the ‘function’ of the different applications to the same key. For example: I use Krita and Photoshop, in Krita the eyedropper tool is accessed by the ‘Ctrl key’, whereas in Photoshop is accessed by the ‘Alt key’ so instead of mapping different shortcuts to different Express keys, I simply use the exact same Express key for both applications and I just know is my ‘eyedropper key’, The Wacom software can detect the application that is in use and automatically change a different set of mapped shortcuts!
