Here's a somewhat spooky old Payne with vintage Stanley mods in a neat old art deco building in Nashua! This elevator was installed in 1939 when the building was built and was modded some time before 1967. The year 1967 is used as a placeholder in NH state records for any elevator that is safe to operate, however does not comply with certain codes implemented that year. This means the elevator could have been modded a number of years before 1967. More likely than not this is a 50s mod. I initially thought the numbers to the left of the buttons were supposed to illuminate when the button for the corresponding floor was pressed, however it turned out they are actually used for the position indicator. There is no space to put a traditional position indicator above the door as a drop ceiling was added, likely as part of the mod. It also appears that the door may have originally been manually operated prior to the mod as well.
