Endoscopic Medial Branch Nerve Transection | Desert Institute for Spine Care

In this animated surgical video they describe the endoscopic medial branch nerve transection. This procedure address chronic low back pain due to facet degeneration. The surgery is performed by a spine surgeon under conscious sedation and only takes about 1 hour to complete. Patients go home about 1-2 hours later. The surgery was invented and developed by our own DISC surgeon - Anthony Yeung, MD (retired). Similar to pain management procedure called a radiofrequency ablation. However, when comparing the surgical procedural verus the pain managment procedure the endoscopic medial branch transection was superior in that patients got up to 5 years of low back pain relief compared to 6-12 months with percutaneous radiofrequency ablation.
