Former Senator Eric Abetz recalls having to quote the Liberal Party's "We Believe" manifesto to a fellow Liberal MP in a political debate about the Chinese Communist Party. "I read out principle number 9, where Robert Menzies said, 'We oppose the autocracy of communism and fascism.' I found it strange that I, as a Liberal, had to defend myself against a fellow Liberal who was not agreeing with my attack on the dictatorial and brutal regime of Beijing (with whom) we have nothing in common."
