Ankeny, Iowa has been one of the fastest-growing towns in America for more than 20 years—and for good reason. With an average of 1,600 new residents each year for the last 30 years, it's no wonder our city has transformed so dramatically. In this video, I take a trip down memory lane to 1990—the year I moved to Ankeny as a 7th grader with my mom. Back when Hy-Vee was just a small grocery store, Dillow’s Super Value was still around, Walmart wasn’t a Supercenter, Ankeny had just one school, and The Bear restaurant was the go-to spot for a special night out. Do you remember what Ankeny was like in the '90s? What’s changed? What do you miss? Drop your favorite memories in the comments—and let us know which new additions you love the most. Here’s a little more Ankeny history: Ankeny was founded on April 22, 1875, by John Fletcher Ankeny and his wife, Sarah “Sally” Ankeny, who laid out the city on 80 acres of land they purchased in 1874. Today, Ankeny spans about 33 square miles and continues to thrive. According to the 2024 Special Census, our population is now 76,207—up over 8,000 people from 2020. As someone who’s been selling real estate in Ankeny for over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping families grow right alongside this incredible town. If you’re thinking about buying or selling a home in Ankeny or the surrounding area, I’d love to help. 📞 Tim Scheib Scheib Real Estate Team – RE/MAX Precision 📱 515-313-7103 📧 [email protected]
