Welcome to The Blue Mouse Knits! Today I'll be teaching you how to knit a one row buttonhole. This buttonhole is worked over 1 row and it knit horizontally. I demonstrate this on stockinette, but you could just as easily work this in 1x1 rib, ribbing, garter or even something like seed or moss stitch. The concept works on any stitch, you bind off X amount of stitches by slipping stitches and passing some over others to bind off. Then you cast on stitches again, which leaves a hole for a button in your knitting. There are a few ways to work this 1 row buttonhole, this is the way I learned. The other variations I've seen are super similar, they usually just involve a slightly different cable cast on and some slip the very last bind off stitch after your buttonhole is created, back to the LHN to be knit along with the rest of the row. I think the difference is pretty slight, so go with the method you like the best. I hope you guys find this video helpful! Have a great day!
