Born in Peoria, Illinois in 1942, Stiers attended the University of Oregon before beginning his acting career in San Francisco. He went on to appear in numerous films and TV shows, including Beauty and the Beast, The Dead Zone, and Stargate Atlantis. In addition to his on-screen work, Stiers was also a prolific voice actor, lending his distinctive voice to animated films such as Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Lilo & Stitch.
