An Endangered Symbol of Seoul's Urban Evolution

For years, I largely ignored a swath of central Seoul that lay between Jongno 3-ga and Dongdaemun in the east and west, and Changdeok Palace and Chungmuro Station in the north and south. I passed through en route to other places, but rarely stopped to look. As such, I have few coherent memories of the place. That's changed in the last few years as I've spent a lot of time walking its streets and alleys. Unfortunately, my explorations have coincided with the city's plans for redevelopment of the area. Much of what I once ignored is no longer there to see, and what is there today is in real danger of being gone tomorrow. One set of buildings won a reprieve. They instead became the center of a revitalization initiative. Unfortunately, the initiative appears to have failed and the buildings may yet be torn down in the years to come. I knew next to nothing about these buildings until recently. So in this video, I take you there to show you around and tell you a little of what I've learned about their story.
