THE F40 IS BACK! Epic Chase of Coaster F40PHM-2C 2101

The Coaster F40PHM-2C is a type of diesel-electric passenger locomotive built in the mid-1990s by Electro-Motive Diesel for the North County Transit District to power trains on the Coaster commuter rail in Southern California. Producing about 3,200 horsepower, the locomotive uses an EMD 16-645 series diesel engine and a full-width “cowl” body similar to classic F40 passenger locomotives used across North America. The “PH” in the name refers to head-end power, meaning the locomotive supplies electricity for lighting, air conditioning, and other systems in the passenger coaches. A small fleet of these units, numbered 2101–2105, hauled commuter trains between Oceanside and San Diego for decades and became well known among railfans for their distinctive high-revving F40 engine sound before gradually being replaced by newer locomotives in the 2020s. 🚆 Thanks for watching this video featuring the legendary Coaster F40 action!
