Coloma, California, is where gold was discovered and resulted in the ensuing gold rush of 1848! An estimated 80,000 miners flooded the area looking for riches, and after a short boom, many moved on to other places in the area. Coloma grew rapidly and then settled into a trading center after the gold rush. Today many call it a ghost town because of all the old buildings you can check out and the fact it's a mere fraction of what it used to be at its peak. I visited on a Saturday, so it was full of people learning about Coloma!
