UNEXPECTED APPEAL Studio City got its name after Mack Sennett built what is now Radford (CBS) Studios in 1927. Because of its proximity to Universal, Warners, NBC and Disney, many actors, writers and other industry folks call it home, finding the relative calm and anonymity attractive. YOU’LL FALL IN LOVE WITH Studio City has a small town feel—trees line the streets, people greet one another, and everyone shops local. But it also supports a number of hip eateries and boutiques. Just stroll through Tujunga Village for a wonderfully varied shopping and dining experience: grab breakfast at Aroma Coffee and Tea Company, peruse the antiques at Elizabeth’s Place, then grab dinner and see a jazz performance at Italian restaurant Vitello’s. CURIOSITY Studio City has affectionately been known as “sushi row” for the highest concentration of raw fish outside of Japan. But, thanks to the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge, the area now brims with Valley versions of such westside stalwarts as Erewhon, Fred Segal, and Joans’s on Third.
