Three doses of Measles Mumps Rubella Vaccine (MMR) is recommended: • At 9 months • At 15 months • At 5 years of completion The government and WHO together have started the MMR vaccine program to eradicate measles and rubella and spread vaccine awareness. If the child has already received childhood immunization, there is no need for immunization again as part of the program. MMR is a painless, safe vaccine administered subcutaneously. It does not cause side effects, except maybe low-grade fever on the 5th day after the vaccine. This vaccine is not recommended for children who are allergic to egg protein. If the child is sick, vaccination should be postponed for at least 10 days after recovery. For girls, the vaccine is strongly recommended since if a girl child harbours the rubella virus, she might develop intra uterine infections during pregnancy because of the virus.
