We usually start the home church conversation in Acts but it actually begins before that. Churches didn't exist until Acts 2. But there were seeds planted throughout the ministry of Jesus that carried over into the life of the early church that we can pay attention to. Jesus invited people to use their gifts and resources to sustain and grow the ministry. If Jesus had just done it all himself, when he left they would not have been ready. Instead, he left people who had already opened their homes – for a home based church Look at the gospels and Jesus’ use of the home and how this sets up the home as the central location for the church gathering in the first three centuries. Jesus used other people's homes as a base for ministry, private teaching, spiritual formation, healing, challenging cultural norms and making a deep impact. It would be wise for us to consider how the home space is an effective space for making change in the lives of people. It also helps more people invest in the ministry and mission. Do you think Jesus intentionally choose the home in a way we should imitate today?
