It was during July 2014 that Dilli Haat was thrown open to the public at Janakpuri. Just about half an hour away from the busy, upmarket and posh location of city centre’s at West Delhi, Dilli Haat is a perfect getaway. Music is the central theme of the haat here. The prime attraction is the music library. If you spend some time here, you will be transported to the world of rich Indian music through books and CDs. If you are music lover, you will be thrilled to discover all kinds of old and new Indian musical instruments and other artefacts related to music, in the museum nearby the library. Dilli Haat Janakpuri is also famous for its live cultural performances. There is a huge amphitheater here which hosts lovely performances all through the year. This place can accommodate 820 people at a time, whereas the AC auditorium can seat around 800 people at any given point of time. This auditorium is highly impressive as it is built using state-of-the-art technology. Currently, this is the biggest haat in West Delhi. One can find a massive hall in the haat, which is the venue for exhibitions, seminars, fairs, events, conferences and the like. This place is a definite haven for shopaholics as there are close to 46 shops that are air-conditioned, 74 shops that situated on the open platforms and close to 100 craft stalls housing a variety of goods. The food court where people throng in large numbers is fully air-conditioned and houses at least 30 food outlets that serve Indian and international cuisines. During summers, when Delhi gets unbearably hot, this place is sheer paradise. All efforts have been taken to ensure that the Janakpuri Delhi Haat takes utmost care of its environment and guests. Visitors who are differently abled too are quite comfortable here, as there are escalators, lifts and ramps to get around the place. There is ample parking space here and all eco- friendly features like harvesting rain water and efficient treatment of sewage treatment add to its appeal.
