Kidney Cancer and a Second Opinion: Debbie's Immunotherapy Story

After a devastating kidney cancer diagnosis, Debbie sought a second opinion and enrolled in an immunotherapy clinical trial. In January 2015, Debbie was diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer and told she had 18 months to live. Debbie and her husband went to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, near their home in Buffalo, New York, for a second opinion. After surgery, her oncologist, Dr. Saby George, advised Debbie to enroll in a clinical trial combining ipilimumab (Yervoy®) and nivolumab (Opdivo®).
