The Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) technology in IK4-TEKNIKER biosensors is used to detect biomarkers in liquid samples. This technology provides biomarkers specificity and concentration, with no need of labels. The interaction of light with a metal nanostructured surface results in the extraordinary transmission phenomenon. Thus, the light spectrum coming from this surface is characterized by the presence of a peak in the resonance wavelength. This resonance wavelength is determined by the dimensions of the features in the nanostructured surface and the dielectric medium in contact with it. If the medium is changed a shift in the resonance wavelength is observed. Therefore, if the nanoestrucured gold surface is functionalized to capture the biomarkers of interest, studying the behavior of the spectrum, the concentration of biomarkers in the sample can be measured. The fabrication of nanostructured gold surface, most of the time, demands the use of very sophisticated, time consuming and expensive techniques. In IK4-TEKNIKER this nanostructures are fabricated by the high throughput and low-cost Nanoimprint Lithography technique, with high reproducibility and reliability. http://www.tekniker.es
