Fall Roundup

Northern Nevada, 1979. Rancher Les Stewart takes a crew of men and horses up to leased federal pastures where the 96 Ranch grazes beef cattle during the summer. The men stay at a central cabin and fan out to collect the scattered cattle. Once they have scoured the high country they drive the cattle down to the home ranch in Paradise Valley, Nevada. They separate the weaned calves from their mothers, branding some overlooked in spring. Calves will be sold to buyers who raise them to maturity. This film was produced by the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress, part of a five-year field research project in Paradise Valley.
