Baking in Space – Town Scientist Science Week 2025 with ESA Astronaut Rosemary Coogan

In November 2025, Town Scientist (in partnership with Dundalk Credit Union) hosted its flagship Science Week event ‘Baking in Space’ in Dundalk – a world-class STEAM science show exploring the fun and physics of aerospace engineering. We were honoured to be joined by European Space Agency astronaut Rosemary Coogan, who visited Ireland in an official capacity for the very first time. Before the show, Rosemary gave an inspiring talk, hosted by Dr. Niamh Shaw, where families asked questions directly and learned what life as an astronaut really involves. The interactive session allowed parents and children to engage with her one-to-one, and every participant received exclusive early access through Town Scientist community channels. The live show was hosted by Dr. Niamh Shaw and Andrew Smyth, aerospace engineer and finalist of The Great British Bake Off, alongside guests from leading experts across the Irish space sector. Once again, the event was completely sold out before any public announcement, proving extraordinary local appetite for STEM. Bringing an astronaut to a town like Dundalk was a powerful moment of inclusion, inspiration, and pride – demonstrating that world-class science engagement can happen anywhere.
