Trapped in a labyrinthine prison built by our own hands, we serve masters who once claimed to be our saviours. We fight against our brothers and sisters, competing for another dose of poison, another brain rotting frippery or cancer ridden mouthful of unnatural sweetness. We stumble through the shadowed alleyways of our maze, weeping for the dreams we have forgotten. And we swear to the old, deaf and blind gods that we’ll be stronger next time, that we’ll stare down the Mammonite money men and turn our backs on their sugar coated razors…knowing in our broken, rotting hearts that we’ll climb over the bodies of dead children to snatch that lacerating treat from their filthy hands; chewing on the deceit until our lips hang in ribbons and our mouths rain blood and lies… A Pretext To Human Suffering have torn away the pitifully thin, obscuring skin of our reality, revealing the rancid meat sculpture that is our dystopian present. Through the overwhelming medium of their incredibly atmospheric, technical death metal they have staged a warped passion play, constructed a stage upon which our betrayal of each other, our self-flagellation and murder can be played out. Debut full length album, Endless Cycle Of Suffering, compels us to confront the unending nightmare of our own existence, the horror which we have laboured to construct. Built upon a steel skeleton of formidable intensity, songs like ‘Hollow Sanctuary’ are also cloaked in a breathtaking atmosphere, swathed in variegated shades of darkness. Each track is an imposing, intimidating edifice – layered and treacherous – with abyssal depths lying behind and between the coruscating riffs. Starlit solos climb from the claws of ‘Formless Collective’, a staggering juxtaposition of beauty and brutality. Each element of the A Pretext To Human Suffering sound is given equal gravitas throughout this outstanding album – be it the superb levels of sheer musicality and skill, the dedication to supreme heaviness, the bringing to life of the band’s horrifying, incisive vision or the imaginative accomplishment of the song writing – and the result is an utterly magnificent album. Hitting the streets on May 26th through Reality Fade Records, Endless Cycle Of Suffering boasts a hugely muscular and dynamic sound, thanks in no small part to the mixing and mastering skills of Floor Van Kuijk at GLDCHN Studios (Sijjeel, Focal Dystonia etc). A Pretext To Human Suffering have striven for perfection visually as well, drawing on the artistic skills of Vladimir ‘Smerdulak’ Chebakov (1914, Deadhead, Lake Of Tears etc) for the album’s intensely evocative artwork.
