My review of the Icon Qcon Pro X. I was able to get the box open, firmware updated, faders calibrated, installed and using it in my Daw reason 9.5 in under 30 minutes. A SOLID piece of gear, heavy sturdy chassis, knobs, faders, jog wheels, buttons all feel smooth and well built. To find something this size, with these features AND motorized faders under $1,000 are unheard of but I can say this piece pulled it off. Can't wait to test out one (or more??) of the Pro Xs's to expand. I don't think I'd want to handle more than 16 faders at a time but you never know. I can see the console and footprint becoming painfully bigger with every addition. (But that's just MY personal taste). Loaded up Reason and the Pro X is a plug n play device so now drivers are needed. The automation is spot on and not chunky or stuttery (if that's a word) as some controller motors will tend to do when reading back automation. The "Reason setup" that comes preinstalled was off at first because I installed it as an Icon device (which makes sense since its an ICON device?!?!) and not Mackie but that was a simple mouse click fix. Other than the top display looking like a run on sentence if you name your tracks using more than 6 characters but I was good at scrabble so I can make 6 letters/numbers work. AND the fact the faders are touch sensitive but need a specific amount of pressure for the Mixer to recognize you did something. This meant that a few times I moved the fader PHYSICALLY but the DAW didn't recognize the movement as I didn't depress the fader hard enough. I'm not worried about that as I know the more I use it, the better I will know the "sweet spot" it needs. I already have to break myself from the habit of hitting the "home" button thinking its going to bring my display back to normal when its "by default" mapped to the metronome on/off. But another mouse click and I was able to map it correctly. The personalization is great and you can save multiple configurations. I can already see me using the "Reason default" layout for production, and making another "mastering configuration", mapping my mono button from my Mix Checker vst to the scrub button on the controller for easy mono/stereo comparison, etc. The ways are endless!! If you're looking for a motorized fader controller with state of the art features found in gear 3 times its price and an analog console feel... GRAB A QCON PRO X!!!
