Most commonly affects young men aged 16–35 years. Key Clinical Features: Arthritis: Acute oligoarthritis primarily affecting large joints in the lower limbs. Urethritis: Dysuria or minimal symptoms. Conjunctivitis: Mild eye irritation or redness. Extra-articular manifestations: Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, circinate balanitis, keratoderma blennorrhagica, nail dystrophy, oral ulcers. Systemic symptoms: Fever, fatigue, weight loss. Investigations: Blood tests: Elevated ESR/CRP, anemia. Synovial fluid: Inflammatory changes, Reiter’s cells. Microbial tests: Urine/stool cultures, antibody testing for prior infections. Radiological findings: Sacroiliitis, periostitis, and calcaneal spurs in chronic cases. Autoimmune markers: RF and ANA negative to exclude rheumatoid arthritis. Management: NSAIDs: First-line treatment for pain/inflammation. Steroids: Intra-articular or systemic for severe involvement. DMARDs: Sulfasalazine, methotrexate for chronic or severe cases. Antibiotics: For active infections like Chlamydia (e.g., doxycycline). Conclusion: Reiter syndrome is usually self-limiting but requires early diagnosis and treatment to prevent chronic complications and joint damage.
