It's been a few months, but I'm back. No reason, other than being lazy. Do I like the Foo Fighters? Yes. Do I love them? No. But I really do admire Nate Mendel and his bass playing. He has a really fluid ability to play such tasteful lines, or keep it relatively simple. He sort of does both in this song, Gimme Stitches. I remember loving this song back in the day, and really marveling at the riff at the very end of the song. When I sat down to learn it this week, I had to slow the track down quite a bit (thanks Moises.ai!) to try to dissect it and even then, I don't think I got it right. I definitely didn't get it on this recording, that's for sure. Speaking of the recording, I took maybe 8-9 passes at it before taking a break (re: stopping). The final audio recording is, for the first time, snips and smashes from 2 other takes. 95% of what you hear is from this actual video; a few of the riffs and turnarounds were c/p from other takes. I really try to post the video/audio from the same take, but in the interest of time (and fun with ProTools), I decided to try piecing multiple takes together. Since my last vid, I discovered the aforementioned Moises.ai app. It uses AI to separate tracks and I was able to upload the original FF track without Nate's bass. That means what you hear in this video is my P bass through a SansAmp Bass Driver DI into my Focusrite Scarlett into ProTools First, with some EQ and compression on the signal. I'm not 100% satisfied with the performance, and it is weird to watch my picking hand because it doesn't seem to sync with the timing of the audio, but I zoomed in and watched, and it does. That said, my pick playing is coming along. I'm comfortable enough to play gigs with pick, but I do still miss notes from time to time. Overall, I enjoy it a bunch. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading and watching!
