i’ve got lots of very new, very different stuff coming soon, but i have to get this one off my chest first. it’s kinda funny thinking what to say about this routine now that it’s so old. i guess i have a bit more distance and perspective. i’ve just spent ages writing about how i came up with the song/routine, but as i wrote those paragraphs i realised i wasn’t writing anything really important. i think what i really want to say about this one is that it marks the end of a ‘more is more’ approach from myself, but it’s also so unapologetically me that i can’t really hate on it. for better or worse, it’s brutally honest and uncompromising and i love that about it. it signalled to me that i needed and wanted to change things up, that i was ready and excited for whatever came next. every time i practiced, performed or listen to this routine i can see and feel the memories of writing each part of the song the routine is based on. i wrote the song whilst spending the best 2 months of my life in japan with ellen. all my routines make me feel a certain way when i perform them, whatever emotion i was trying to embody whilst creating them/where my mind was at during those weeks or months. this one just makes me feel happy and free, peaceful like nothing really matters and u already have everything u ever wanted or needed. once i got back to the uk i had 3 weeks to make the song into something i could perform live and also practice it enough for a dj battle world final. anyway, fast forward to the 2023 ida world finals, i performed the routine and didn’t win, i was a bit salty at the time, but i get it now, everything always happens for a reason and i learned a lot during the process and from the outcome too. big shout to zach pridding for shooting and editing the video and paul willis for the colour. can’t forget the big homie skull for the hotel footage that the vid was basically based on. Big love to ellen for the title graphics as always xxx and a huge shout to johntype for helping me with some ableton/serato midi wizardry that the routine would have been impossible to perform without. hope u dig it :)
