The Studio website can be found at https://www.lbastudios.com and it's where you can find more information about the studio, gear, and booking. This studio tour begins with a quick walk through during a Garden Party performance of their song, "The Game". This song was written by guitarist, Grace Lougen. Learn more about Grace and her music at www.gracelougen.com. Singers, Sue Kincaid and Peter Vincent perform vocals on this song during the intro clip of this video. In the control room we find a pristine AMEK Big 44 digitally controlled analog mixing console with total recall, dynamics, automation, and more. Loads of Lightning Boy Audio (A.K.A. LBA) gear fills the studio as you'll see. Some of this gear is in production and is available for purchase new from https://www.lightningboyaudio.com. If you'd like to see what sort of work goes into restoring and upgrading a desk like this, check out the Big Flippers mini series here: • Big Flippers There's also a video completely dedicated to the Super True Automation program used by this console here: • Recall & dynamics demo of AMEK’s Super Tru... The plate reverb here at LBA is a giant contraption with a beautiful sound. If you're interested in possibly constructing one of your own, check out this 10-part series on the plate reverb here: • DIY Plate Reverb Hiding in the right side of the main rack in the control room, you'll find my Teq-1 passive EQ, which is a crazy one-off in the style of the Pultec EQP-1A. I mention paper-in-oil capacitors here. The video on how to make your own paper-in-oil tone caps can be found here: • How To Make Tone Caps - DIY Paper in Oil C... Just after that we come to the API 500 series rack and the "Eye of Jupiter" modules. Check out this video to get a more in depth peek at this product from LBA here: • Eye of Jupiter - a 500 series DI and Reamp... As we travel around the control room we get to the Otari MTR-12 2-track 1/4" mastering reel-to-reel tape machine. Here we hark back to the first Big Flippers episode where Ben McLeod of All Them Witches states, "15 IPS is the sound of Rock n' Roll." We were at his studio in St. Augustine, FL when he made that statement. Check out brmsound on Instagram. Out in the Green Room we get to take a peek at the setup that was used to track vocals for the Indigo Girls just before this scene was shot. Amy sang into a Neumann M 149, while Emily sang into a Neumann U87 Ai in the Galaxy Booth. An SE Electronics Reflexion Filter Pro was used with the U87 during that session. On the floor is a beautiful 1964 Ampeg B-15NB. Out in the Piano Room we get a little taste of the sound of that 1976 Kimble baby grand piano, which was set up by Kevin Urso. You can hear Kevin Play the piano in the Hall at LBA here: • Dark Storm stereo mic preamp recording piano Last but not least, the outro of this video is presented with part of the song, "Dark of the Storm", by Burnt Trace. You can check out the whole song and music video here: • Dark of the Storm - official music video b... Troy and Stephanie Daniel provide the vocals with some backing support from me. I performed the instruments aside from drums, which were done up by Josh English. If you got this far, please give this video a like and subscribe for more cool content. Thanks for watching!
