Rhine River Cruise Gate 1 Day 5 Speyer & Heidelberg

Today, the ship docked in Speyer, Germany. Those of us that signed up for the optional Heidelberg Tour boarded a bus. Those of us that didn't, had a walking tour of Speyer. (We had signed up for the Heidelberg tour). After the walking tour of Speyer, the ship departed Speyer for Heidelberg to pick us up. It was about a 45 minute bus ride to Heidelberg. The tour started by walking through town, with our guide, toward the tram to the castle, while learning about Heidelberg history along the way. We boarded the tram and rode up to the palace. Our guide explained how each building was built by different heirs. Inside Heidelberg palace was an enormous wine cast, we enjoyed the views, and returned by tram to the city of Heidelberg. In Heidelberg, it was time for shopping and eating apple strudels. On our way back to the bus, we stopped by the brass monkey, walked through the gate and walked the old bridge. Then, boarded the bus back to the docks, and had a short wait for our ship. After boarding, the ship departed for Rudesheim, Germany. Another fantastic day!
