Yinka Awobo-Pearse led a Parent’s and Children’s Workshop on the session titled, “For Girls Only: Let’s Talk Puberty, Peer Pressure & Purpose.” The session educated parents and children about key topics like physical and emotional changes during puberty, strategies for resisting peer pressure, and building self-esteem and purpose. Session recorded at the 7th Edition of the Akada Children's Book Festival in October 2025 (Lagos, Nigeria). The Akada Children’s Book Festival (ACBF), Nigeria's first and largest book festival dedicated exclusively to children, has further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting literacy, showcasing works of indigenous authors, and encouraging widespread engagement with children’s literature. The 2025 festival themed “Book An Adventure,” held at the UPBEAT Centre in Lekki on October 25th, 2025, welcomed over 1,500 attendees, highlighting its pivotal role in showcasing and celebrating the idea that every book is a journey into imagination, history, culture, and self-discovery. The theme underscored the role of storytelling in helping children explore new worlds, ask bold questions, and see themselves as active participants in shaping the future. The event showcased original children's books created by Nigerian authors both locally and internationally. In addition to book readings, the festival featured storytime sessions, children and parent’s workshops, book chats and book exhibitions, allowing children to meet their favorite authors and discover new titles. Engaging activities included a chess tournament, a STEM exhibition, sip and paint sessions, a sensory play area, arts and crafts, jigsaw puzzles, chess and scrabble tournaments, animation workshop, an art exhibition, all providing opportunities for children to express their creativity. There were Insightful sessions for parents and teachers which offered guidance on supporting children’s literacy development. The 2025 festival honored Lola Shoneyin with the Children's Book of the Year Award for her book, "Tunde Onakoya, The Chess Champion", illustrated by KR Onimole. Also, Ogbu Eme received the Early Reader Book of the Year Award for "The Water School", while Tayo Oyetayo won the Picture Book of the Year Award for "Komtu, The Grumpy Chameleon". #akadafestival2025 #childrensliterature #bookfestival #acbf
