Hatched as the perfect caper just before ringing the New Year, Vic & the Resolutions formed when Midnight Ride in house producers Crown Lites (Matt Kursmark, Mike Sarason) invited famed songwriter and singer Vic Ruggiero (the Slackers) to jam at their studio, Shag City. Over just a few short sessions, the group captured the magic of music done the old fashioned way, playing live together in the room, finding their groove across many genre touch points including old school Rhythm and Blues, classic Reggae and more. As it happened, the sessions not only occurred just before New Years, but also directly in the wake of the passing of Terry Hall, the seminal singer and frontman of The Specials. As a tribute to the man and his legacy, Vic & the Resolutions recorded a version of “The Lunatics (Have Taken Over the Asylum)”, originally released in 1982 by Hall’s post-Specials group, Fun Boy Three. Although over 40 years old, a retelling of this story in Vic’s patented gruff lament style of singing sounds as relevant today as ever. “The Lunatics” was chosen to be the first song released to fit the moment we’re in, but rest assured, Vic & the Resolutions will return in 2025.
