(19 Apr 2018) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: AP CLIENTS ONLY ASSOCIATED PRESS - AP CLIENTS ONLY Philadelphia - 18 April 2018 ++AUDIO ONLY, OVERLAID WITH STILLS IN SHOT 11++ 1. SOUNDBITE (English) Rashon Nelson, Detained at Starbucks: "When I asked her could I use the bathroom, she said the bathrooms were for paying customers, and that's all she said. I just said okay, kept walking to go sit down." 2 . SOUNDBITE (English) Rashon Nelson, Detained at Starbucks: "There was no confrontation after that, no type of interaction after she came and asked us did we want drinks or anything. We told her no, we're waiting for a friend, for a meeting and that's it and then she walked away. About five minutes after that, maybe, police were walking in. We're not thinking anything of it. We're not doing anything wrong. Then when we feel, we see the police walking towards us, that's when we knew, ok, she called the police on us. And that's when we initially got real confused, like what's going on?" 3. SOUNDBITE (English) Rashon Nelson, Detained at Starbucks: "When you know that you did nothing wrong, how do you really react to it? It's two ways to react: You can either be ignorant or you can show some type of sophistication and act like you have class." 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rashon Nelson, Detained at Starbucks: "So we decided to keep calm and understand this happens all the time, everyday, everywhere. " 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Rashon Nelson, Detained at Starbucks: "You go from being someone who's just trying to be an entrepreneur, a business person having your own dreams and aspirations, you know things that you want to bring into the world and put their life on deck- and then this happens, and now you're in another scale of decision-making. It's like what do you do? How do you handle it? Do you stand up? Do you fight? Do you sit down and just watch everyone else fight for you? It showed us that although this happened to us, it affects everyone, because lots of us have went through these experiences … and you have people who have never witnessed these experiences and they finally have witnessed it now" 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Donte Robinson, Detained at Starbucks: "It's still processing with me right now, honestly, what to do, the right way to go about it. That's why we're here. Because we do want to see change and to make sure it doesn't happen to anybody again. As we've been saying the past couple of days, what if it wasn't us sitting there? What if it's somebody without resources but that's there for a real reason. Are they still in jail right now? Did they make it to jail? Do they die? What happens?" 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Donte Robinson, Detained at Starbucks: "You don't know what something like this truly is until you live it. Even for me, even knowing the possibilities and everything like that - it's still eye-opening because it happened to me. Like you know, you're aware of it but until it's you, you don't know." 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Rashon Nelson, Detained at Starbucks: "Of course it affects you because now every time you see maybe a police - you see a cop- you see a police officer, and now you're like what is he gonna do? Or you're just like why are the cops here? I'm not comfortable with you around. You walk in that store and you know there's someone acting like they're shopping just to see what you're going to do. If you're going to take something or they're assuming you're about to steal- or you and your friends are stealing just because how you look- like you can't afford this. That's just the type of world we live in." 9. SOUNDBITE (English) Donte Robinson, Detained at Starbucks: 10.
