There were three juvenile eagles seen visiting at the West End Overlook! These juvies are a 2025 hatch and are most likely fledglings from neighbor nests. On Catalina Island, we had 9 successful fledges from five active nests. Two Harbors and West End nests failed during the incubation period, but Seal Rocks (one eaglet), Pinnacle Rock (2 eaglets), Rattlesnake Canyon (2 eaglets) Middle Ranch (2 eaglets) & Twin Rocks (2 eaglets) are most likely where these juveniles fledged from! Overall in the Channel Islands, there were at least 36 eggs laid and 26 confirmed eaglets!! In addition to that exciting news, there are numerous sightings of 2nd & 3rd year immature eagles and non breeding adults observed in new areas! Thank you IWS for the fantastic 2025 report for the eagles! In this video we see one juvie by itself, then two juvies together and finally all three! An adult eagle - most likely Haku or MV (male visitor) were swooping down on the juvies to get them to move along! Timestamps for the adults swooping 07:53 and 10:04. Here is a summary of the events that have transpired at the West End nest for 2025. "The West End pair also had a tumultuous breeding season. In late January, a rival male, “Makaio” replaced the previous West End male, “Akecheta,” and bred with the 2024 West End female, “Thunder.” Then, in late February, a rival female, “Haku”, challenged and replaced Thunder. Shortly afterwards, ravens took both eggs (Thunder and Makaio’s) from the nest. Haku and Makaio have not attempted to breed this season. A new male visitor has been seen at the nest with Haku. (MV) and he has replaced Makaio. " Thank you for watching!
