Pandemics occur when a disease spreads to many regions of the world and infects many people at the same time, as COVID-19 did in 2020. So, how can we stop a pandemic like COVID-19? With measures like mask-wearing, physical distancing, and, most importantly, vaccines, all of which cut off paths for the virus to spread. #Pandemic #Endemic #Vaccines #Containment Vaccines reduce infections, hospitalizations, and deaths and help achieve community immunity. Over time, a disease like COVID-19 may become endemic—always present in a population but spreading infrequently once a high level of community immunity is achieved. The end of a pandemic may also depend on how a particular disease manifests. The virus SARS-CoV-1, a coronavirus closely related to SARS-CoV-2 (which causes COVID-19), causes severe symptoms quickly and individuals aren’t contagious until after they show symptoms. Its spread in 2003 was stopped within six months using quarantine and isolation measures.
