Full RoSPA exam with commentary. GTR1400 advanced riding techniques. Edit: examiner feedback (name changed to protect the innocent 😇 )… The weather for this test was, in places, poor with a mix of heavy rain and drizzle producing, on occasion, limited visibility and wet roads, together with damp or drying roads and blustery winds. The route comprised a selection of A and B roads in both rural and urban areas with a variety of speed limits together with a section of Motorway. The roads were often congested with queuing traffic in places making for a challenging ride. Gruffaloscoot is an experienced rider and trainer and indeed runs his own motorcycle advanced training business. It was apparent from the outset that Gruffaloscoot's standard of riding was to a very high standard resulting in little to critique. Throughout the test Gruffaloscoot always positioned his bike to afford maximum safety, stability and view and on open roads demonstrated excellent linking of corners and bends to enable maximum progress in a smooth and fluid action. A good balance was found between acceleration sense and the use of the three phase braking technique that provided smooth, progressive and accurate braking. When required though, due consideration was given to vulnerable road users such a cyclists without compromising the flow of the ride. In more built up areas he took in all available information, always maintained good safety margins, identified actual and potential hazards and dealt with them calmly and efficiently as demonstrated by use of a horn warning to good effect. The slow traffic also gave the opportunity to demonstrate excellent slow speed control. In conclusion then, an excellent ride well worthy of the award of GOLD, well done.
