This vlog documents one of the coldest mornings of my Winter Ladakh Expedition. I woke up in Nyoma at a homestay, surrounded by frozen landscapes and bone-chilling winds. The day began with editing work on my laptop while the room heater tried its best to keep the cold at bay. As soon as the sun appeared, I stepped outside to show how people survive with diesel vehicles in extreme sub-zero conditions. On the streets, I met a local uncle whose car was literally wrapped in blankets to keep the fuel system warm — a common winter hack in Ladakh. Inspired, I opened the bonnet of my Mahindra Thar and let the sunlight heat up the engine area. After uploading my content and having a dry fruit shake followed by a much-needed hot shower, it was time for the real test — starting the Thar in the cold. Multiple attempts, a diesel heater, and a lot of patience later, the engine finally roared to life. That sound alone felt like a small victory in Ladakh’s harsh winter. With the vehicle warmed up, I explored frozen villages around Nyoma, had a simple coffee and chow mein at a local spot, refilled my diesel heater fuel, and set off toward Tso Moriri along the frozen Indus River. Along the way, I showed how sections of the Indus are frozen solid while some parts continue to flow — an unbelievable sight. However, plans changed mid-way when my friend’s vehicle couldn't proceed due to extreme conditions, forcing us to call off the Tso Moriri plan for the day. I continued to Chumathang and parked near a natural hot spring — one of the warmest places in an otherwise icy region. Here, sheltered from the strong Ladakhi winds, I attempted cooking inside my Thar. The onions and ladyfingers were frozen solid, making even basic cooking a survival challenge. Still, I managed to prepare a simple curry and roti, and ate peacefully inside the warm Thar — a rewarding end to a long, demanding day. Winter Ladakh isn’t just about beautiful landscapes — it's about survival, improvisation, and the small wins that bring immense joy. This vlog captures exactly that journey. #WinterLadakh #Nyoma #Chumathang #FrozenIndus #TsoMoriri #LadakhExpedition #ExtremeWinter #SnowCamping #MahindraThar #TharLife #DieselHeater #ExtremeSurvival #FrozenFood #TravelVlog #LadakhDiaries #WinterCamping #OffroadIndia #OverlandingIndia #CaptainRover
